Eco friendly gifts under $25 are easy to find. Ones that get used are harder. A stocking stuffer that lands in a drawer by January is waste, whatever the label says.
So we picked the other kind. Every item below replaces something a person already buys, runs out of, or throws away. Nothing here needs a lecture to go with it. Prices are what our listings show right now.
Short version: the bamboo toothbrush 10-pack ($9.99), the soap saver bag ($7.99) and the bamboo dish cloths ($6.99) are the safest stocking stuffers for almost anyone. The rest depend on who you're shopping for.

A bamboo toothbrush 10-pack ($9.99)

It's a toothbrush. That's the pitch. But here's the math that makes it a good stocking stuffer: the American Dental Association recommends replacing a toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles fray (MouthHealthy, the ADA's patient site). Ten brushes covers roughly two and a half to three years for one person. About a dollar a brush.
Or split it. A household of four replacing brushes on that schedule goes through about twelve a year, so one box lasts most of a year for the whole family. That's a stocking stuffer the whole house actually uses.
Be straight about what it is. The handle is bamboo. The listing doesn't spell out the bristle material, so we won't tell you the whole brush composts. It's an adult size, so it doesn't fit a kid's stocking. And if someone swears by their electric brush, skip it. We wrote more about this one in The Bamboo Toothbrush We Actually Sell.
A stainless steel straw ($9.84)

A 304 stainless steel straw comes straight or bent, in a 6mm standard width or a 12mm wide one. Pick the wide one for smoothies. Pick the standard one for everything else.
It only gets used if it can be cleaned, so look for a variant that includes the cleaning brush or add one. A straw nobody can scrub out ends up in the drawer. Also worth knowing: metal conducts heat, so it's a cold-drink straw first.
If you'd rather give a bigger pack, the bamboo straws are $19.99 for 12, versus $14.56 for a single one. Buy the 12 and hand them out. Bamboo needs hand washing and air drying, per the listing. We compared the two materials side by side in Stainless vs. Bamboo Straws.
A soap saver bag ($7.99)

It's a little bag for a bar of soap. The cotton and hemp pouch measures 13.5 by 9 cm. Drop the bar in, cinch it, and it lathers up without a separate washcloth. The last sliver of soap gets used instead of washing down the drain.
Pair it with a bar they already like and you've got a complete stocking stuffer for about the price of a coffee. It's plant fiber, so it wears out over time. That's by design, but it also means it isn't a forever item. Who it doesn't fit: anyone who only uses liquid body wash.
Bamboo fiber dish cloths ($6.99)

The cheapest thing on this list, and probably the one that gets used the most. The bamboo fiber cloth is about 22.7 by 18.3 cm, small and thin, and machine washable. It wipes counters and spills and goes through the laundry with the towels.
It won't replace a sponge for scrubbed-on pans. It replaces the paper towel run. If you want to know which cloth, sponge or brush suits which job, we sorted that out in Dish Cloth vs. Sponge vs. Brush.
A wooden spoon and fork set ($9.99)

One spoon, one fork, wood instead of plastic. The set comes in four styles. Style 1 is a bit longer (spoon about 22.5 cm), the other three run about 18 cm. It goes in a desk drawer, a lunch bag or a camping box.
Care is simple but not optional. Wash with warm water and air dry. Skip the dishwasher. If the wood looks dry, rub in a little olive oil with a cloth and wipe off the extra, per the listing. Doesn't suit someone who wants everything dishwasher-safe.
A natural loofah ($12.02 and up)

There are two. The bath loofah is $14.67. The kitchen loofah runs from $12.02 for one to $22.43 for four, depending on the variant.
Here's the honest part. A loofah is a refill, not a forever item. The listings say to hang it to dry fully after each use and replace it every few weeks with regular use. If someone showers daily, that's a short life. Fine, we'll say it: that's a reason to give a pack of four rather than one. More on both in Natural Loofah Sponges: Bath and Kitchen.
Four stuffers that ship free
Orders under $35 pay a flat $4.97 shipping. Orders of $35 or more ship free (our shipping policy). That's useful if you're buying a few at once.
Take the toothbrush 10-pack ($9.99), the wooden spoon and fork ($9.99), a stainless steel straw ($9.84) and the soap saver bag ($7.99). That's $37.81 for four small stocking stuffers, and shipping is free. Swap in the dish cloth instead of the straw and you land at $34.96, which is four cents short. Not a typo. Just bad luck.
What we left out
A couple of things we sell are over the line, so they're not here. The 40oz insulated travel mug is $32.82. The wool dryer balls are $10.29 for a single ball, but the 6-pack is $34.31. A single ball is more of a sample than a stocking stuffer, so we skipped it. If you want the case for the 6-pack, we ran the numbers in Wool Dryer Balls vs. Dryer Sheets.
How to pick one that gets used
Three rules. They're boring, and they work.
- Replace something they already run out of. Toothbrushes, soap, dish cloths. They'll use it because they'd have bought the other version anyway.
- Skip anything that needs a guess. Scent, size, color taste. A plain object beats a risky one.
- Add the care note. Tell them the loofah needs to dry and the wood needs oil now and then. A stuffer with no instructions fails quietly.
You're not failing anyone if you also add chocolate. Chocolate gets used too.
When to order
Our policy lists US delivery at 8 to 12 days after 1 to 2 days of processing, and big orders can arrive in separate shipments. So allow about two weeks. For stocking stuffers meant for December 25, order by the first week of December.
Want to build a bigger box? We put one together in Build a Sustainable Gift Basket, and the rest of the lineup is in the Eco Gifts collection. No rush on any of it.
Curious what ended up in your stockings last year that actually got used. Reply and tell us.
